Why did the Banque de France create this Award?

The transition to a net-zero carbon economy compatible with the goal of "well below 2°C" global warming as indicated in the Paris Agreement, and the promotion of sustainable and environmentally friendly growth are among the main challenges of our time.

While the primary responsibility for climate and environmental policy lies with governments (commitment to carbon neutrality, sectoral policies, taxation, etc.), climate action by all public and private actors is necessary. Thus, central banks and supervisors must act within their mandates, particularly regarding financial stability and price stability.

These authorities can also encourage the development of sustainable finance through actions in responsible investment and research, which is why the Banque de France decided to create the Young Researchers Award.
